When I see the worsening degeneracy in our politicians, our media, our educators, and our intelligentsia, I can’t help wondering if the day may yet come when the only thing that can save this country is a military coup.
I post this as a reminder of just how deranged American conservatism has become. Notice its the media, educators, etc., not the president who led us in a quagmire of a war based on lies. The saving grace is the curmudgeons are dying off at a rapid rate.

I agree that it was Bush and others of his ilk that led us all into that inhumane invasion. I cannot comment on educators in America however in Australia they were vehemently opposed (in the majority) to the war.
The media on the other hand wasn't as free as we would have liked. There was no robust discussion in our media, just alot of hype and perpetuated lies. I wonder if in the US it was the same? I will take a guess and say that it was.
I know enough about the American media to know that like Australia it is basically a puppet of the conservatives.
One thing here in the US is conservatives love to bash the media, academia, anyone who doesn't spout the party line. The idea of Sowell bashing them isn't so noteworthy; his call for armed rebellion is - particularly when the conservatives have controlled the presidency, congress (until recently) and the Supreme Court.
I know Rupert Murdoch is a huge force in Australia, and he certainly is the US. There are liberal counterbalances, but sadly many of them fell asleep at the switch or were all too have to see Karl Rove rapping at the press corps dinner.
Great minds, Ron..... This was my Bush Sweetheart yesterday.
MP, the media in the issue in the US (and I presume in Australia as well) is that their focus is making money. Advertising provides that money, and the advertisers with the most to spend are the multi-national corporations who are making money from Bush's war for oil and conquest.
